Bedford Man Dies On Highway

BEDFORD—A Bedford man is dead following a freak accident over the weekend.

According to the Lawrence County Police report, 26-year-old Jeremy W. Robertson of Orleans was travelling on State Road 37 near Mitchell Road where 54-year-old Jeffery L. Slaughter was walking along the highway.

Robertson came upon Slaughter and tried to swerve to avoid hitting him. Slaughter jumped into the path of Robertson's vehicle and was knocked into the shoulder of the road. Robertson immediately stopped his auto and ran back to check on Slaughter. Robertson called 911 and Dunn Memorial Hospital Ambulance service personnel and the Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene.

Slaughter was pronounced dead at the scene. Lawrence County Coroner John Sherill was called to determine the exact cause of death. According to police reports, Slaughter was killed from a fractured head wound.
