Mitchell man dies in car/motorcycle accident

A Mitchell man is dead following a car/motorcycle accident just after noon Thursday. The accident occurred on State Road 37 and Rariden Hill Road north of Mitchell.
Lawrence County Sheriff's Department Detective Mike Branham investigated the accident where Russell H. Daugherty was attempting to cross the highway. Daugherty did not see Michael J. Yoder driivng a Kawasaki motorcycle at what was reported at a high rate of speed.
Yoder hit the back end of Daugherty's van rupturing his gas tank causing an explosion. Yoder was thrown from his cycle and died after hitting the pavement. Dunn Memorial Emergency Medical Service, Marion Volunteer Fire Department and the Mitchell Police Department assisted at the scene.
