(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Police Department is honored to host a Peace Officer Memorial Service on Wednesday, at the IUPD-Bloomington station.

The eulogies of the seven officers killed in Monroe County will be read. Officers and community members from throughout the county are invited to attend this emotional, annual service.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the north parking lot at the IUPD-Bloomington station at 1469 East 17th Street.

Those attending are asked to park in the south parking lot at the IUPD-Bloomington station. Parking also is available in the neighboring St. Paul Catholic Center.

If it is raining the ceremony will be moved to the south lobby of the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, at 1001 East 17th Street.

Afterward, attendees may tour the IUPD-Bloomington station.

Peace Officers Memorial Day, which began in 1962, is held annually in the United States on May 15 in honor of federal, state and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. The ceremony is in conjunction with Police Week. The local Don Owen Fraternal Order of Police Lodge has hosted the service each year, with local departments serving as hosts the last few years.
