(HURON) - This morning at 7:19 a.m. the Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting "a man lying in the middle of the road."

Sheriff Mike Branham says the caller was unable to tell if the man was alive or dead.

Officers from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department responded to the 2300 block of Old Vincennes Road, south of Huron.

When they arrived, they found 33-year-old Brandon Lee Baker, of Shoals, unresponsive and partially in the road.

An AMR ambulance crew began life-saving measures at the scene and transported Baker to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"The Lawrence County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death and manner of death," Sheriff Branham added, "No additional information will be released at this time due to this being an active investigation."

As with any pending case, if the public has any information that may be helpful, particularly anyone passing through the area in the early morning hours, they are asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 812-275-3316 or leave the information on our Tip-Line at 812-277-2020. Tips may remain anonymous.
