Two Injured In Accident At 16th Street And State Road 37

(BEDFORD) - Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at State Road 37 and 16th Street on Monday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police report, 69-year-old George James of Mitchell was traveling south on State Road 37 and was in the turn lane to turn west onto 16th Street.

At the same time, an AMR ambulance driven by 24-year-old Shane Jarrett of Mitchell was traveling west on 16th Street and was crossing State Road 37 on an emergency run. Police say the ambulance was utilizing their lights and sirens.

James told police he was turning when his 2017 Ford Fusion was struck by the ambulance.

Jarrett told police he had the green light to cross State Road 37.

A witness told, police the ambulance had cleared the intersection with all other vehicle stopped when James' car proceeded through the intersection traveling around 30 miles per hour and failed to yield to the right-of-way to the ambulance.

James' car struck the right rear of the ambulance at a right angle.

James suffered an abrasion to his elbow/lower arm was treated at the scene by the ambulance personnel.

Jarrett complained of back pain.
