(JASPER) - Trooper Kaitlyn Greene and her partner K-9 Drogos were certified as a new K-9 team assigned to the Jasper State Police Post.
The Dubois Pree Press reports, over the past three months Trooper Greene and K-9 Drogos have spent an enormous amount of time training and preparing for a very difficult certification process that can take nearly three days to complete.
K-9 Drogos is a 5-year-old German Shepherd from Poland who is now certified in Narcotics, Tracking, Article Search, Aggression, Building Search and Area Search. K-9 Drogos is categorized as a Patrol K-9, which in short means he is at the top of the food chain when it comes to police dogs, according to state police.
Greene is a Spencer County native and three-year veteran of the Indiana State Police.
Greene graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on December 23rd, 2014. After graduating the Recruit Academy, Greene was assigned to the Jasper Post to patrol primarily Spencer County.
Before becoming a K-9 Handler Greene was selected to begin dive training in March 2016. After completing dive training in May, 2016, Greene was assigned to the Indiana State Police South Zone Dive Team, as an Underwater Search and Rescue Diver, in addition to her patrol duties.
Earlier this year Greene received the department's Life-Saving Award from ISP Superintendent Doug Carter for her role in saving a kayaker from drowning in a drainpipe.
Greene was selected as the district's new K-9 handler after an arduous selection process that involved a written examination, performance assessment, and oral interview.
Trooper Greene and K-9 Drogos will be assigned to the Jasper District which encompasses Spencer, Perry, Crawford, Orange, Dubois, Daviess and Martin Counties. ISP K-9 teams are routinely sent to other areas of the state as needed.
Jasper District Commander, Lt. Jason Allen stated bringing a second K-9 team to the District will be vital for both state and local departments to combat the meth and heroin problems facing our communities. Lt.
