Last updated on Monday, December 31, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are investigating an incident where a 2-year-old boy tested positive for high levels of THC, found in marijuana, after being hospitalized at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis on Thursday night.

Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams says detectives continue to investigate how the toddler consumed the marijuana.

According to Capt. Kellams, the mother told police she believed her son had ingested paint from markers used to color in the bathtub.

IU Health Bloomington Hospital medical staff concerned about the toddler's breathing requested the child be flown by helicopter to Riley Hospital. Police say tests performed at both hospitals confirmed the boy had high levels of THC in his system.

Capt. Kellams says officers searched the mother's home in the 800 block of North Smith Road and found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and the bathtub markers.

No arrests have been made in the incidents at this time.
