Seymour Police Release Name Of Woman Struck And Killed Sunday

Last updated on Tuesday, December 18, 2018

(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour woman was struck and killed Sunday in the 600 block of West Tipton Street.

According to Seymour Police, 63-year-old Mary Ann Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to the scene at 5:59 p.m.

According to Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott, Wagner was walking on the sidewalk north on Tipton Street when she stepped into the right westbound lane of Tipton Street. She had partially made it across the roadway when she was struck by a Ford Taurus driven by 24-year-old Spencer Nicholas, of Seymour.

Two witnesses and Nicholas say Wagner stepped out in front of the car.

Chief Abbott says they had a difficult time identifying Wagner after the accident.

Police sent a fingerprint card to the Indiana State Police who conducted an analysis and were able to identify Wagner. Abbott said police then found relatives in North Vernon, and they confirmed her identity.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, toxicology results are pending.

Once the investigation is complete, the report will be submitted to the prosecutor for review, which is the protocol for death investigations, Abbott added.
