(BEDFORD) - Sears Hometown in Bedford will close its doors on January 12th.
Gary Smart, who has owned the store since 2012, is grateful for his loyal and dedicated customers.
Customers can look forward to sales and graduated discounts during the holiday season, Smart told the Times-Mail. The discounts will be on in-store appliances, tools and more as supplies last. Everything will go.
Sears Hometown is not owned by Sears Holding Corp., which filed for bankruptcy protection in October. The Bedford store is independently owned. The decision to close was based upon a number of business factors.
Smart says during this transition it has been difficult to assure that the local store could provide a steady supply of inventory or the level of customer services that customers have the right to expect.
Smart noted all protection agreements will still be handled through the hotline 800-4MYHOME.
Sears Holdings Corp., which is a separate entity from Sears Hometown, filed for bankruptcy protection in White Plains, New York, on Oct. 15. The plan was to close about 142 of its 700 stores by year-end and sell up to 400 of its best-performing stores in an auction in January to a buyer that will keep them operational.
Although they share a business relationship, Sears Holdings, and Sears Hometown split in 2012, which is around the same time when Smart bought the local store. Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores operate more than 750 retail stores in 49 states, operated as dealer owners and franchisees.
The Sears store in Bloomington's College Mall closed in summer 2016.
