Changes For Store Chain To Benefit Southern Indiana

Last updated on Thursday, December 27, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The closing and reopening of an Indiana and national chain store will lead to new jobs in the coming year.

The retail store chain, Goody's, located at 1218 James Avenue, will be closing to reopen under the new name of Gordman's. The change will have a positive impact on the community.

The change-over also affects the Salem Indiana store, along with nine other stores in the state.

The store manager at Goody's in Bedford, Cheryl Wingler, told WBIW that the change is positive and will potentially lead to the hiring of more than 20 new employees at the Bedford store alone.

"We currently have eight employees at our store, and anticipate hiring up to 20 more employees," Wingler said.

That will be good for Bedford and the surrounding areas, according to Wingler.

The store will close during the transition on February 23, 2019, and reopen as Gordman's on March 7, 2019.

"There will be a lot of unique items in the new Gordman's store that you don't find in this area," Wingler said.

Goody's has a total of 11 stores throughout Indiana and a total of 37 stores across the U.S.

A customer at the Bedford store, Cindy Strunk, reacted positively to the change.

"Goody's has always had good deals, and they have higher end merchandise," said Strunk as she shopped.

Prospective applicants can contact Manager Cheryl Wingler directly at the Bedford store at 1218 James Avenue.
