Last updated on Wednesday, December 26, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Pigasus Pictures, the visionary, Indiana-based film company has 2 major announcements for Indiana high school students.

For the third year in a row, Pigasus is hosting their high school screenwriting competition Project Pigasus.

For this competition, Hoosier high schoolers can submit 12-page screenplays, the producers at Pigasus will select a winner, and then they will produce the film on a full-scale, professional level, in the town of the winners, with students shadowing every position on set.

"We want young people to know that it doesn't matter if you've never written a screenplay before," says Zachary Spicer, CEO of Pigasus, "Everybody loves movies, and everyone has a story to tell. We want to help make that happen. So, just go to the website, read the instructions, and start writing!"

The finished film will be screened in Indiana theaters, submitted to film festivals across the country, and subsequently be available for online streaming. Submissions are currently open to any high school student in the state of Indiana by visiting www.projectpigasus.org.

The guys at Pigasus also have even bigger plans for Indiana. In February, they will open the doors on the Bloomington Academy of Film and Theatre, a comprehensive training institution of entertainment, and a first of its kind in the state of Indiana.

In partnership with the Pigasus, the Bloomington Playwrights Project, Cardinal Stage, and Cook Group, BAFT will offer professional training in all disciplines of entertainment including filmmaking, acting for stage, acting for the camera, musical theatre, improv, and dance.

The Academy will offer training for all ages and levels of experience and interest. Professional development courses for business, like executive presence and public speaking, will also be offered. The Academy will operate year-round, including weeklong summer intensives for which the Academy hopes to draw students from all over the state and region. Workshops will be also held regularly with prominent actors and casting directors from across the country.

The Academy will primarily operate out of a newly constructed sound stage in downtown Bloomington located at 411 East 7thStreet, two blocks north of Kirkwood. The facility is being transformed and will be outfitted with state-of-the-art film production equipment, which will also be available for rental on a limited basis. Construction for the soundstage is underway and classes will begin in February 2019. For more information, visit www.thebaft.org

For the last several years, the producers at Pigasus have proven their dedication to growing the entertainment industry in Indiana. "There are a lot of really skilled and talented people in Indiana," says John Armstrong, COO of Pigasus and executive director of the Academy. "A large part of our work is simply connecting dots and creating new opportunities. And we especially want to show young people that you don't have to be from somewhere else or move somewhere else to get experience in the film world. With the technology now available, you can start your career in your own backyard."

Contest entries are being accepted and pre-registration for classes is open now. Time and space are limited! So get online and take advantage of these opportunities!
