(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana University chapter of Kappa Sigma has been suspended by its national headquarters, according to officials at the university.
The fraternity's national headquarters cited alcohol, hazing and "other violations" for its decision, according to a letter from Mitchell Wilson, the Kappa Sigma Executive Director.
The chapter is to suspend all activities and turn over the property and charter immediately.
"We are informing the University and the campus community that the Kappa Sigma Chapter is no longer in operation in any form or fashion," Wilson wrote in the letter.
Members of Kappa Sigma have to be out of the frat house by the end of the semester.
The chapter does have 30 days to appeal the decision by its national headquarters, but it is unclear if they will do so.
The University supports the national organization's decision, says IU spokesman Chuck Carney.
