Indiana State Police Bloomington Post Receives Two New Troopers

(BLOOMINGTON) - Lieutenant Paul Bucher, Commander of the Bloomington District, welcomes two new troopers to serve Monroe, Morgan, Brown, Greene, Owen and Lawrence Counties.

Both troopers are from a class of 54 recruits who just graduated from the 78th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on Thursday, December 13th, 2018.

During the 22 week training period the recruits received over 600 hours of classroom instruction as well as nearly 400 hours of hands-on practical and scenario-based training exercises.

Some subject areas of training included criminal and traffic law, crash investigations, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms, and a host of other subjects related to modern policing. These troopers will now be assigned to train with veteran troopers for the next 13 weeks before receiving their own patrol cars for solo patrol.

Chance Humphrey is a native of Springville, Indiana and a 2002 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. Humphrey spent three years furthering his education at the University of Indianapolis and Ivy Tech. Probationary Trooper Humphrey and his wife Becky have two children and reside in rural Lawrence County.

Probationary Trooper Humphrey will primarily patrol Lawrence County.

Samuel Wagner is from Pierceton, Indiana (near Fort Wayne) and a 2003 Homeschool graduate. Wagner earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University at Bloomington. Probationary Trooper Wagner also currently serves in the Army National Guard (Infantry and Artillery Forward Observer). Probationary Trooper Wagner and his wife have two children and reside in rural Lawrence County.

Wagner's Grandfather was a patrolman in St. Paul, MN for more than 30 years.

Probationary Trooper Wagner will primarily patrol Greene County.
