Fire Causes More Than $2M In Damages At Boyd Equipment

(WASHINGTON) - More than 50 firefighters from six fire departments battled a blaze at Boyd Equipment on Friday night.

The fire caused more than $2 million in damage.

A passerby reported the fire at 10:37 p.m. Friday night at the plant at 16 County Road South 350 East, in Washington.

Washington Township Fire Chief Tony Wichman says when firefighters arrived they found thick black smoke billowing from the building.

Boyd Equipment works on heavy equipment including tractor trailers, and bulldozers and other equipment.

Chief Wichman says part of the 8,000 square foot steel structure was gutted. Extensive damage was done to the equipment and tools inside the building. Also damaged were four semi-tractors and one trailer. The parts room was also heavily damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal who was called to the scene Friday night.

No foul play is suspected, says Chief Wichman.

Firefighters from Wheatland-Steen Township, Veale Township, Southeast, Montgomery, and Plainville assisted at the scene.

Firefighters remained on he scene until 2:25 a.m. Saturday morning.
