City of Bloomington Announces Live Christmas Tree Collection Schedule, Holiday Week Sanitation Delay

Last updated on Monday, December 31, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Sanitation Division will begin picking up live Christmas trees and live wreaths on today with the last day for pick up on Thursday, January 10th.

City residents may place their trees and wreaths at the curb for collection on regular yard waste days. All decorations and lights must be removed and the trees and wreaths may not be in plastic bags. Items should be placed at the curb by 5 a.m. on collection day.

The Sanitation Department would like to remind residents that composting and mulching are the greenest ways to reduce waste and create useful fertilizer for the yard or garden. Composting is natural, easy, requires almost no maintenance and can be done in any number of ways. For more information on composting, visit epa.gov/composting/.

Additionally, the Sanitation Division (solid waste and recycling removal) will operate on a one-day delay Tuesday, January 1 through Thursday, January 3. Sanitation customers should place waste and recycling carts on the curb by 5 a.m. one day after their regularly scheduled collection days January 1 through January 3.

For more information regarding Christmas tree collection procedures or the sanitation removal delay, please contact City Sanitation Director Rhea Carter at 812-349-3443. Information can also be found on the City's webpage at bloomington.in.gov/sanitation.
