(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man was arrested Sunday after police say he shot his son with a BB gun twice in August.

According to Greene County Sheriff deputies, the 7-year-old boy suffered a wound to his neck and back.

Deputies arrested 36-year-old Jason Haywood, on felony charges of domestic battery on a person less than 14 years old and neglect of a dependent.

He remains in the Greene County jail on an $8,000 surety bone with ten percent cash allowed.

A warrant had been issued for Haywood on August 21, but officers were unable to locate him. Officers then obtained an address for Haywood and a new warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers were alerted to the shooting after the child's mother came to the department reporting Haywood had shot their son with a BB gun after a weekend visit with Haywood, who is the boy's father.

Haywood had brought the boy home a day early. The child was upset, crying, and told his mother Haywood had shot him twice with a BB gun. Haywood told the woman he had accidentally shot the boy.

The child told police all the BB guns were laid out on a porch and when he was walking away from the porch to a tool shed he felt something hit him in the back and he started to cry because it hurt. His dad told him he didn't mean to shoot him in the back and he was sorry. The child then started walking toward the woods and turned around and his dad shot him again this time in the neck.

Police took photos of the child's injuries and forwarded the information to the Department of Child Services. During an interview with DCS Haywood allegedly admitted to shooting his son so he would know what being shot with a BB gun felt like. Haywood told officials it was a bad decision.
