(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer is urging residents to create a profile on Smart911.

"No one plans to call 911, but now you can help emergency crews before they arrive on the scene by creating a profile," she added. "We want to educate people about it, why it's important and how helpful it is."

Smart911 allows residents to create a profile about yourself, family members, your home, pets and even vehicles that will be immediately available to the 911 operator and those responding in an emergency.

"These details can save valuable seconds or even minutes during an emergency," Luchauer added.

Seconds count when:

A child goes missing
There's a fire
You experience a medical emergency
There's an accident at home or on the job
You are in a vehicle accident
