(SALEM) - Washington County Special Olympics is hosting a donation drive on the Salem square Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from this event will help fund year-round sports and training for athletes to compete in county, area and state competitions.

Special Olympic basketball sign-ups are also going on, with practice beginning Nov. 18 at the Salem High School gym from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Washington County Special Olympics is excited to have a Unified Fitness Club. The club meets each Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Salem High School Field House. Athletes and volunteers walk, spend time together and communicate ways to get and stay fit.

Anyone wishing to donate or become an athlete or volunteer can email Washington County Coordinator, Ray Owen at soinwc@gmail.com; Assistant Coordinator Angela Phipps at aphipps@salemschools.com or visit soindiana.org.

Online training through Special Olympics must be completed before volunteering.
