(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County YMCA is now accepting applications for financial assistance for Y memberships to help families in need.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, November 30. Financial assistance applications for Y memberships are accepted in November each year and awarded for the following calendar year.
More information about the financial assistance application process for Y memberships can be found at www.MonroeCountyYMCA.org/financial-assistance.
The Monroe County Y provided financial assistance for Y memberships to 273 families in 2018. The Y received a 37% increase, or 74 additional households, in the total number of families who applied for assistance in 2018 versus 2017. With more than $153,000 financial assistance awarded in 2018 for memberships, 761 individuals were impacted, and 391 of those are either dependents or children.
This is possible through the generous support from the Y staff, members, and community. Funds are raised during Y for All events held throughout the year, such as the Gala in August and Corporate Challenge in September and October. Ongoing donations through staff-giving and member donations also help support the Y's cause.
Financial assistance for Y Summer Camp is open in March each year, which is separate from the current Y membership application process.
