Michael Akers No Longer Principal At Bloomington High School North

Last updated on Tuesday, November 6, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Michael Akers is no longer principal at Bloomington High School North.

In an email to families Monday afternoon, district spokesman Andrew Clampitt stated assistant superintendent Andrea Mobley will be serving as school's interim principal. She'll be joined by Betty Anderson, a retired North assistant principal who will assist school administrators on a part-time basis.

The email does not state if Akers was removed or if he resigned. Officials say that information is confidential.

Another unrelated Bloomington High School staff departure was divulged in this email.

The email focused on the arrest of 36-year-old William Marrs, a school custodian. He is facing charges of voyeurism and child exploitation after he admitted to hiding his phone in the girl's locker room at Bloomington High School North and videotaping them. He has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Akers' leave has nothing to do with that incident, according to school officials.

North administration will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, to discuss the incident related to the locker room and answer questions from parents and other concerned individuals.
