Bruce Calloway Manager of Government & Communications presented the check.

"We are fortunate that Duke Energy cares about investing back into the youth of our community, and appreciate how supportive they are of our Boys and Girls Club throughout the year," Deckard says. "Our youth are given tremendous opportunities because our community is made up of caring businesses and leaders such as the Duke Energy and Bruce Calloway."

PLTW students engage in hands-on activities, projects, and problems that are reflective of real-world challenges. This compelling, real-world approach empowers students to learn essential, in-demand skills validated by the world's leading companies, while also providing an invaluable connection between what students are learning in the classroom today and how it applies to the paths they'll take in the future.

"The program brings learning to life and inspires students to question what's possible and prepare them for long-term success," says Decker.

PLTW programs prepare students with in-demand knowledge and transportable skills and transform the teaching experience. The program will be available to students beginning in January.

The club will use the grant money to purchase the following modules:

Theresa Hall, Senior Director of School Engagement, Midwest Region says Project Lead The Way is pleased for the students of Bedford to have this opportunity through the Boys and Girls Club.

"Frank Decker has been a leader and Master Teacher with PLTW and is the perfect person to bring these STEM experiences to your community," Hall added. "We look forward to this program becoming an example for other communities as a strong partnership between community and school."

Decker says this grant opens doors not only to those who are club members but to the community. Decker will be training adults at the club to teach the classes and then reach out to area teachers.

"He (Decker) will be able to train people in-house, and then reach out to the community... that is what makes it that much more attractive," says Calloway. "Students will be engaged in valuable science, engineering and computer science projects that teach them to problem solve, think critically, and collaborate while exposing them to fields that are growing in the business world."

Decker will reach out to the staff at Parkview Primary and Intermediate first because of their location and then other teachers interested.
