Holiday Art Show & Celebration

Last updated on Monday, November 12, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Holiday Art Show & Celebration - featuring the artwork of people with developmental disabilities is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Downtown Depot & Wiley Art Center at 1401 and 1402 J Street.

It is a collaborative partnership between ARC of Lawrence County, Bedford Revitalization, Inc., Lawrence County Art Association and Stone Belt Arc.

"We applaud the artists whose works are displayed for sale at the Downtown Depot," says BRI Board of Directors
President Susan Gales. "You are encouraged to purchase artwork for everyone on your holiday list as proceeds from sales goes to the artist."

In addition to the art show, the event commemorates the 10-year anniversary of BRI's moving of the William T. Wiley
House. The move and subsequent rehabilitation provided a permanent home for the Lawrence County Art Association
and its good work in the community.

In November of 2008, Bedford Revitalization Inc. (BRI) moved the childhood home of nationally known artist William T. Wiley from 25th Street and Washington Avenue to its present downtown location at 14th and J Streets. Volunteers from BRI and the Lawrence County Art Association (LCAA) remodeled the home, creating the Wiley Art Gallery.

The Wiley Art Gallery has provided LCAA to have a permanent place to produce and promote art.

The Lawrence County Art Association and Wiley Art Gallery Founded in 1964 by a group of local artists, the Lawrence County Art Association has been promoting the arts in Lawrence County for over fifty years.

To celebrate the anniversary, BRI and LCAA are teaming with the ARC of Lawrence County to stage the inaugural Holiday Art Show and Celebration. The showcase is part of Lawrence County's Bicentennial Legacy Project.

The show features art rendered by individuals with developmental disabilities. The works are for sale and proceeds go to the respective artists. Those presenting pieces Saturday are James Swartz, Betty Jo Terrell, Nancy Vibart, Jason Barger, Chelsea Beitler, Joseph Cramer, Kelly Draus, Haley Franklin, Dorothy Glass, Audrey Goens, David Howard, Nick Parsley, Brandon Phillips, and Troy Stewart.

Lawrence County BBQ Company will cater the event.
