Crash Claims Life of Anderson Woman, Leaves Three Others Injured

(NASHVILLE) - An accident on State Road 46 East claimed the life of an Anderson woman and left three others injured.

Former Madison County Auditor Jane Lyons died at the scene of a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon just before 4 p.m. in the area of State Road 46 East near Nelson Ridge Road

According to a Brown County Sheriff's news release, a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Sheila Hendricks, of Taylorsville, was traveling westbound on State Road 46 East when she struck the rear of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata driven by Eric Knechtel of Columbus.

Hendricks' vehicle then left the westbound lane and struck an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Cruze head-on, driven by Joy Watson of Anderson.

Lyons, a backseat passenger in Watson's vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Watson was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital by a medical helicopter.

Her front-seat passenger, Baylee Bell of Anderson, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital by ambulance.

Hendricks was taken to Methodist by ambulance.

The extent of their injuries was not listed in the press release.

The crash remains under investigation pending toxicology results and a crash reconstruction report.

Assisting at the scene were Indiana State Police troopers, Nashville Volunteer Fire Department and Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department and Harrison Township Fire Department first responders.
