Last updated on Tuesday, November 20, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A man wanted in three states led Bloomington Police officers on an early morning vehicle pursuit driving the wrong way on I-69 before crashing his vehicle.

The driver, 32-year-old Michael Baum, crashed his 2000 black Lexus sedan into a brick wall along West Third Street.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, Baum ran from the crash site and hid in a wooded area near Rose Hill Cemetery.

The incident began around 4 a.m. Monday, when a Bloomington Police officer attempted to pull Baum over for speeding on State Road 46 near I-69/State Road 37. Police say Baum was traveling 67 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone.

Baum failed to stop and continued traveling west on State Road 46, then south on Curry Pike to Third Street. He then turned the car around in a parking lot and headed north on Curry Pike then east on State Road 46.

According to Capt. Kellams, officers stopped their pursuit when Baum exited onto I-69 headed south in the northbound lane and continued going the wrong way on the interstate until he crashed.

Officers arrested Baum on charges of resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of marijuana. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $4,500 bond.

Capt. Kellams says Baum is wanted on warrants in Clay County, Missouri, and Topeka, Kansas. The warrants stem from numerous court and probation violations and high-level felonies, including battery on a police officer. He is also wanted in Paoli, Indiana after stealing a vehicle and fleeing from officers.
