(UNDATED) - Students attending schools throughout Indiana will join families across the world on International Walk to School Day and several area schools are participating.

They are:

  • Orleans Elementary School in Orleans

  • Springs Valley Elementary School in French Lick

  • Templeton Elementary School in Bloomington

  • Throop Elementary School in Paoli

Walk to School Day is a global event that unites students across forty different countries on the same day to celebrate and encourage safe routes to school all year long. Students gather together and safely walk and bike to school to demonstrate the benefits of walking and biking as transportation options.

Health by Design provides support and technical assistance to communities throughout Indiana that are looking to increase participation and improve safety among students walking and biking to school. Health by Design is a coalition of partners working at the intersection of the built environment and public health, collaborating across sectors and disciplines to ensure Indiana communities have neighborhoods, public spaces, and transportation infrastructure that promote active living for all.

There are currently 51 Hoosier schools registered for the 2018 celebration.
