(SULLIVAN) - A standoff in Sullivan County on Wednesday ended with a woman dead.

Officials were called to the Sullivan Days Inn at US 41 and State Road 154 after reports about an unruly guest at 1:24 p.m. of a female guest who was refusing to leave.

When officers arrived, they found the woman in the hall and asked to speak with her. She refused and barricaded herself in her hotel room.

Police evacuated employees and guest from the building.

Officials obtained a master key and found the woman was armed with a gun. They called for additional manpower. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team responded. They also requested a felony intimidation warrant for a judge.

Just after 5:40 p.m., Troopers reentered the room and there was an exchange of gunfire and the woman was fatally injured. An autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

The woman's name has not been released, pending notification of family members.

Assisting at the scene were the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Sullivan City Police Department, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Units, Indiana State Police Detectives, Sullivan County Prosecutors Office, and the Sullivan County Coroner's Office.
