Stellar Downtown Streetscape Project Updates

(BEDFORD) - Construction is underway to update the streetscape in downtown Bedford. Below is a list of activities that officials anticipate happening over the next week.

Work hours are Monday thru Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Last week's progress:

15th Street and 16th Street

All concrete work is complete.
Conducted preliminary walkthrough for punch list. Punchlist has been issued to the contractor. Began installing the decorative handrail on I Street.
Milling and HMA paving performed. NOTE: There are some areas that were not paved on a few corners. This is due to said corners still needing to have corrective work performed at curb ramps.
The contractor began caulking sidewalk and edge treatment joints on 15th Street. This will be an ongoing process over a few weeks.

What to expect October 22nd thru October 27th:

15th Street and 16th Street
Continue caulking sidewalk and edge treatment joints.
Corrective work on curb ramps. Contractor will be starting at the northwest corner of 16th Street and J Street removing and re-pouring curb ramps that need correction.
Begin installing permanent pavement markings
Begin installing landscape and plantings around the square.
NOTE: Weather could affect some work activities and could cause delays.

Customer Access:

Normal customer access has been restored. All sidewalks are currently open.
While the contractor is removing and re-pouring various curb ramps over the next couple weeks, there will be short durations of ramp closures. Those ramps affected are as follows: NW 17th Street and J Street, NW 16th Street and J Street, SW 15th Street and J Street, NW 15th Street and J Street, NE 15th Street and I Street, SE 16th Street and I Street.

Parking/Traffic:

Parking along the square and throughout the project has been restored.
The contractor will still need to paint permanent pavement markings (PPM) throughout the project. The PPM contractors are expected to begin installation over the next couple of weeks. While this is going on parking will be limited on an as-needed basis in order for the PPMs to be placed and time to dry.

Handrail installation

Handrail installation has begun on I Street. Currently, 16th Street handrail is in fabrication.
Once I Street is complete the contractor will begin installation on 16th Street then 15th Street will follow.
Duke Energy has been notified that they can begin installing new light pole foundation. Installation date is to be determined pending Duke Energy schedule. After talks will Duke, they expect to begin installation over the next couple weeks.
Limestone Furniture is in fabrication. Installation expected to begin around the end of November.

STELLAR LIMESTONE TRAIL CONNECTOR PROJECT

Construction is underway on the Limestone Connector, connecting the Milwaukee Trail at 10th Street to the Downtown
Streetscape and Courthouse Square via Lincoln Ave/L Street, 14th street and 17th street.

NOTE: Work hours are 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday

Last week's progress:

Limestone Sidewalk Restoration and concrete work complete on L Street between 14 th Street to 15 th Street.
Began removals on L Street from 16th Street to 17th Street.
Continued pouring sidewalk and curb ramps L Street from 15th Street to 16th Street.
Installed permanent signage on L Street/Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 14th Street.
Installed Bike Rail on Lincoln Avenue just south of 10th Street.
Installed solar-powered flashing push-button pedestrian crossing signals at 14th Street and L Street.

What to expect the week of October 22nd thru October 27th:

Finish installing signage on L Street/Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 14th Street.
Storm Sewer installation on L Street from 16th Street to 17th Street.
Continue concrete work on L Street from 15th Street to 16th Street.
NOTE: Weather could affect and delay construction activities.

Customer Access:

The sidewalk on the south side of 14th Street is open to pedestrian and bike traffic.
The sidewalk on the north side of 17th Street is closed from J Street to K Street. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the south side of 17th Street.
The sidewalk on the west side of L Street/Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 14th Street is open to pedestrian and bike traffic.
The sidewalk on the west side of L Street from 15th Street to 17th Street is closed. Pedestrian access is maintained on the east side of L Street.

Parking/Traffic:

Lincoln Avenue and L Street are open to northbound and southbound traffic from the Round-a-bout to 15 th Street.
L Street from 15th Street to 17th Street will be one way north only for approx 45 days.
17th Street from J Street to K Street: Currently open to traffic.

Limestone Walkway just south of 14th Street on L Street was completed

Construction is underway for the Stellar Community Facades Renovation Project. Below is a list of activities anticipate happening this week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Façades Renovation construction project.

Last Week's Progress-October 15 thru October 18:

Limestone at 1020 16th Street
Finished drywall and painting at various locations
Demo work at 1509 J Street
Installed wood fillers at 1012 16th Street
Caulked storefronts and windows at various locations

What to expect the week of October 22nd thru October 26th

Ceramic work at 1012 16th Street
Ceramic work at 1611 - 1613 J Street
Continue trim and painting at various locations
Flooring at 1526 I Street
Continue CIP's at 1509 J Street
