Man Arrested After Rural King Employee Foils His Attempt At Shoplifting

Last updated on Monday, October 1, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - The fast thinking of a Rural King employee foiled the attempts of a shoplifter on Friday night.

Bloomington Police arrested 37-year-old Timothy Arsenault after he filled his shopping cart with more than $873 worth of tools from the Bloomington Rural King.

According to a Bloomington Police report, after filling his cart, Arsenault pushed it to an area at the back of the store for associates only. He then attempted to exit through the loading dock area, but when he attempted to open the doors he set off an alarm.

Police say that startled Arsenault who then bit his lip and fled the area walking out the front door.

While in the parking lot, Arsenault asked a Rural King employee if they wanted to make a quick $20. He requested the employee go to the loading dock area and retrieve his jacket that he had left behind in the cart.

The employee walked away and Arsenault got into this car.

Police say he then drove to the west side of the store to the loading dock area and that is when the employee locked down the area foiling any attempt of Arsenault to drive away.

Realizing he was caught, Arsenault went inside the store with the employee until police arrived. He was arrested on a felony charge of theft.
