Last updated on Sunday, October 21, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - Police arrested a Bloomington man after he attempted to rob a gas station with a fire extinguisher in the 1300 block of West 13th Street.

Police responded to the gas station at 12:15 a.m. on Thursday after a report of a man in the gas station causing a disturbance.

When police arrived they found a shirtless man behind the front counter and the store a mess.

Police say 29-year-old Wesley Wilder had sprayed the fire extinguisher all over the station.

Wilder refused to cooperate with police or answer questions.

The female store clerk told police Wilder entered the store and grabbed the store's fire extinguisher, pointed it at her and said he was robbing the store. She grabbed the store phone to call the police but Wilder grabbed the phone and smashed it.

She then ran from the store and used her cell phone to dial 911.

Police arrested Wilder, on preliminary charges of attempted robbery, intimidation, interfering with reporting a crime and criminal mischief.
