The Bartholomew County Coroner's office has identified the victim as 65-year-old Ronald K. Rhoades. Deputy Coroner Jay Frederick said investigators have learned that Rhoades lived alone in the home, he was a smoker and used a walker to get around.

When firefighters arrived at the scene at 3:17 a.m. the home was engulfed in flames. Firefighters say 90 percent of the two-bedroom, one-story house was on fire, which prevented firefighters from entering the house.

It took firefighters from Clay Township, Columbus Township, Elizabethtown and Wayne Township around 50 minutes to extinguish the blaze. They then did a search of the home and located Rhoades inside.

The State Fire Marshal has been called to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
