City Of Bloomington To Hold Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony For The Mill

Last updated on Wednesday, October 24, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington and Dimension Mill Inc. will celebrate the completion of the newly renovated Dimension Mill facility (“The Mill”) at 642 North Madison Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony October 31 at 1 p.m.

Representing a more than $4 million investment on the City's part, The Mill has been developed to be Bloomington's new hub for innovation, coworking, and entrepreneurship. The Mill will be operated by Dimension Mill Inc., an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to attracting, developing, and retaining talent and growing wages in Bloomington.

Located in a former Showers Brothers furniture factory building in the heart of the Trades District, The Mill's renovated facility preserves, adapts, and showcases many of the structure's original materials and features, such as brick walls, reclaimed wood floors, and sawtooth skylights. The 19,000 ft² facility features large open areas, such as the open workspace and two-story event venue, bespoke office suites available on entrepreneur-friendly month-to-month terms, and meeting rooms, a podcast/film studio, and collaborative spaces.

"We're thrilled that The Mill is ready to open on schedule," said Pat East, executive director of The Mill. "This is a proud moment for both Bloomington's entrepreneurial community and our community at large. With our facility complete, companies that might start small have access to resources and networks that will help them boost Bloomington's economy in a big way."

"The launch of the Mill represents a truly collaborative effort between the City and its entrepreneurial community," said Mayor John Hamilton, "It is exciting to witness this meaningful stage in the development of the Trades District as an economic and cultural destination -- and driver -- for our community."

The October 31 ceremony will feature remarks from Hamilton and East, among others, followed by a tour of the newly renovated facility. The Mill will be hosting a full slate of events open to the public in the week before its official launch on November 15. A schedule is available at the following link: www.dimensionmill.org/launch.
