Washington County Council And Board Of Commissioners Hosting Public Meeting Tonight

Last updated on Tuesday, September 4, 2018

(SALEM) - The Washington County Council and Board of Commissioners are hosting a special meeting tonight to allow the public to attend and participate in a budget discussion.

Discussion will center on how the county can increase its revenue to offset losses caused by property tax caps.

Options include increasing the local income tax or reducing credits that reduce residents' property tax bills.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the former Circuit Court room in the courthouse.

The budget hearing will begin at 6 p.m.

County officials are reviewing the proposed 2018 budget of an estimated $21.5 million.

After officials adopt the budget, it must then be approved by the state before being finalized.
