Participants Raised More Than $110,00 At Alzheimer's Association Walk

(BLOOMINGTON) - More than 800 residents from Bloomington and the surrounding area joined the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, at City Hall Plaza in Bloomington.

Participants raised a projected total exceeding $110,000 to fund Alzheimer's care, support, and research programs. Funds are still being tallied, and it is not too late to make a difference. Visit act.alz.org/Bloomington to give now.

"It was a beautiful day at the 2018 Bloomington Walk to End Alzheimer's in our brand new location at City Hall Plaza," said Kyle Davern, Development Specialist for the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter. "We are so grateful to the community for coming out to support our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease. Funds raised provide Alzheimer's research, advocacy, and care and support for those in the community facing Alzheimer's or dementia and their caregivers."

Highlights from the 2018 Bloomington Walk to End Alzheimer's:

Participants walked one or two miles along the B-Line in downtown Bloomington on a beautiful, sunny day.

Sponsors included Statewide Presenting Sponsor Eli Lilly & Company, Statewide Major Sponsor Trilogy Health Services, Local Presenting Sponsor Garden Villa Bloomington, and additional local sponsors Autumn Hills, Jill's House and Tri-Star.

In Indiana alone, there are more than 110,000 people living with the disease and their 338,000 caregivers. In the United States, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer's and other dementias.
