Lincoln And Fayetteville Elementary Schools Receive New Buddy Benches

Last updated on Sunday, September 23, 2018

(UNDATED) - Lincoln Elementary and Fayetteville Elementary Schools recently received a new Buddy Bench for their playground.

According to Lincoln Elementary School Principal Angela Girgis, the two schools were chosen out of 75 Indiana schools to receive this unique bench.

This bench is the idea of 9 year old Sammie Vance from Fort Wayne, IN. With the help of Walgreens, Sign Crafters, and Green Tree Plastics, Sammie collected plastic bottle caps and lids to help get rid of loneliness one cap at a time.

"If a student is lonely, new to our school, or would like to make a new friend they sit on the Buddy Bench," Girgis says. " If students see someone sitting on this bench they go ask if the student wants to play with them."

Lincoln presented the bench at their Fabulous Friday assembly and several students reenacted a playground scenario to help students better understand how the bench would be used.
