(BLOOMINGTON) - A Newberry man is in jail after firing a gun and injuring another male during a domestic incident at a Bloomington mobile home.
Police arrested 39-year-old Brian Ringo on Tuesday night on a warrant charging him with attempted murder and burglary. His bond has been set at $51,000.
Ringo is accused of breaking into a mobile home and firing his gun during a domestic dispute in the 1600 block of North Willis Drive the night of Sept. 2.
Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams says police responded to the Arlington Valley Mobile Home Park after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor around 11 p.m. reporting they heard gunshots.
Ringo was arrested after Indiana State Police received a tip that he had checked himself in at Meadows Hospital. Bloomington detectives found him there.
Ringo filed for divorce on Aug. 16 from his wife, and he went looking for her at the mobile home that Sunday night. She was there with her boyfriend, Joshua Vestal, of Bedford.
He told police he used a knife to pry open the door but told police Vestal fired a gun at him first.
According to Bloomington Police, 35-year-old Vestal was shot twice; one bullet grazed his chest, the second bullet entered his left thumb and lodged in his wrist.
Ringo was not injured and fled the scene.
Vestal was treated at the hospital and later arrested and charged with possession of a gun by a serious violent felon. He was arrested after police did a search of the mobile home and found two types of shell casings and a 9 mm handgun hidden in the bathroom toilet tank.
Police also arrested 37-year-old Stephanie Bruce, who lives at the mobile home and was present during the shooting, on a charge of obstruction of justice.
Ringo told police he hid in a wooded area in Greene County and in Owen County in the days following the shooting.
On Sept. 5, a property owner in Owen County called detectives to report Ringo had hidden the gun in a cornfield because the weapon had been used in a shooting.
Police found a .22 caliber handgun with its serial number scratched off, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside a trash bag near the cornfield.
