City Of Bloomington To Host Next Round Of Public Meetings For Unified Development Ordinance Update

Last updated on Wednesday, September 5, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington’s Planning and Transportation Department invites residents to continue to engage in the process of updating the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) by attending the fourth public meeting about the document Tuesday, September 11 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall (401 N. Morton St.).

At the meeting, members of the public will have the opportunity to ask questions of and share concerns with the consultant team, led by Clarion Associates, and City staff.

Originally adopted in 2007, the UDO is the primary source of land use regulations for the City of Bloomington, including both zoning and subdivision control ordinances. The updated UDO is expected to complement the 2018 Bloomington Comprehensive Plan.

"As we move deeper into the UDO update process, public input is essential to ensuring we are codifying our priorities as a community," said Mayor John Hamilton. "I encourage the residents of Bloomington to engage in this foundational decision-making."

The consultant team will also conduct stakeholder meetings throughout the day September 11 and 12 at City Hall in the McCloskey conference room and Council Chambers. During this round of public meetings, the consultant team will direct input from board and commission members, local business owners, developers, neighborhood associations, and others toward the revision and refinement of development standards and incentives in order to create greater alignment between the objectives of the UDO and the Comprehensive Plan. Feedback from these and subsequent meetings will be used to prepare an adoption draft expected in January of 2019. Information, project updates, and meeting materials -- including Module 2: Zone Districts and Uses -- are available at bloomington.in.gov/udo/update. All stakeholder meetings are open to the public.
