Last updated on Wednesday, August 29, 2018

(BEDFORD) - Three people were injured in a 2-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Road 37 and John Williams Boulevard on Monday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police report, 71-year-old Shirley Layo, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling north on State Road 37 approaching John Williams Boulevard. At the same time, 48-year-old Earl Porter was also traveling north on State Road 37 in a 2006 Ford F-250 behind Layo's vehicle.

Layo told police that she slowed for traffic that was stopped at the intersection when her Equinox was struck in the rear by Porter's truck.

Porter, of Mitchell, told police he attempted to stop but his brakes failed.

Porter's truck ended up in the median, at which time he says his brakes began working again and he was able to stop.

Layo, of 624 Riley Boulevard and her passenger 69-year-old Sheila Rush, of Orleans, both complained of chest pain.

Porter suffered seat belt injuries and an abrasion to his arm from the airbag deploying.
