Last updated on Sunday, August 19, 2018

(MEDORA) - It has been 30 years since the murder of Medora teacher Keyla Weddel.

She was murdered sometime on the night of Aug. 17, 1988, or early morning of August 18, 1988.

Weddel, 33, was a second grade teacher and mother of three, a six-year-old son and 3-year-old twins - a girl and boy - was well known and loved member of the Medora community.

She lived in a mobile home located behind the residence of her parents Wanda and Glenn Freeman.

Her body was discovered in her mobile home by her mother in the morning hours of August 18, 1988. She had been bludgeoned to death in her bedroom. The murder weapon was not recovered.

Her children are now grown. Her parents have died. Yet there's no resolution to her murder.

Police covered the scene of the murder for days searching for clues, conducting interviews and trying to determine who would have killed Weddel.

Police say there was no evidence of forced entry, and nothing was stolen from the mobile home.

After all these years, there has been no arrest and no suspect has been identified.

The Indiana State Police need the public's help. Detective Chris Howell has been assigned to the case and is looking for a big break. Weddel's clothing and household items are at the Indiana State Police Laboratory in Indianapolis for testing in hopes that something will be discovered.

Anyone with information about Weddel's death is asked to call the Indiana State Police at (800) 566-6704 or Crimestoppers of Central Indiana at (800) 222-TIPS.
