SR 45 Bridge Overlay Begins Today

Last updated on Tuesday, August 21, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - The bridge deck overlay application on State Road 45 at its span overpassing Cascade Road -which was postponed to accommodate student move-in at Indiana University - will begin today with temporary signal activation controlling one-direction-at-a-time traffic flow.

The State Road 45/Old State Road. 37 bridge is located one mile east of State Road 37.

Part of Indiana Department of Transportation's $548,548 six-bridge project in Monroe, Morgan and Johnson Counties, the State Road 45 structure at Bloomington is being fitted with a 3/8-inch polymer epoxy overlay to project its driving surface from water intrusion and UV ray damage - extending its service life. Installed in two lifts, flint chips will be mixed with the polymer to create a long-lasting high-friction surface course.

Traffic restrictions will continue throughout the week.

Weddle Brothers of Evansville, is INDOT's contractor.

SR 45 Pedestrian Crossing

A pre-construction meeting was conducted at INDOT Southeast District offices in Seymour Monday morning to launch a $110,000 pedestrian-activated signal project on State Road 45 at its intersection with Deckard Drive/Tamarron Drive on Bloomington's east side.

Ragle Construction of Newburgh will begin installing the High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal heads in mid-September. Signal beacons will be pedestrian-activated.
