Salt Creek Festival Pageant Registration Open

Last updated on Monday, August 13, 2018

(OOLITIC) - The Salt Creek Festival Queen, Junior, Little and Miss pageants’ registrations are now open.

Forms can be obtained by messaging Salt Creek Festival Pageant Facebook Page, the Salt Creek Festival Facebook Page or by calling (812) 483-2603.

There is a $30 registration fee and the deadline to sign up is August 31.

The theme for this year is Falling For Careers according to Heather Machida, Salt Creek Festival board member and pageant director.

"What the girls are going to do with the theme is dress like their career of choice - and add a little fall touch to it," said Machida.

The pageants will include the following categories: formal wear, an interview and an on stage question for the Queen Pageant.

Age groups for each pageant:

The crowning will take place during the Salt Creek Festival on October 4 at 6 p.m. on the Salt Creek Festival stage.

The 2018 Salt Creek Festival Queen will be awarded a $500 scholarship provided by Bedford Ford and one free credit hour class with Ivy Tech. The credit hour can be taken online or at any Ivy Tech's campus.

Machida said the Haunted Trail is looking "wonderful."

"We're going to start building all the props. We have to put some ideas together. I do know the nun is getting her own church this year."

The Nun is a haunted trail scare character that has gained popularity in the community.

"The Aluminosity robotics crew has partnered with us and they took on the road block for me this year and really helped. They've been involved fully with everything so far," said Machida when talking about how festival planning is progressing.

The Salt Creek Fall Festival will take place October 4th - 6th at the Salt Creek Flea Market in Oolitic.

The Haunted Trial will be open starting the last two weekends in September and all four weekends in October for $10 a person.

Each day the Haunted Trail is open, the first two of hours will be appropriate for young ones. Parents and their little ones will be able to go through for $5. The youngsters will have the option to take a Nerf gun with them for a "zombie shoot out" while on the trail.

On Thursday, October 4th, along with the Haunted Trail, kids can enjoy hay rides, a kids costume contest and Trunk or Treat.

Then on Friday night, the first ever Halloween Dance Party will take place. Costumes should be appropriate for family fun and the festival board reserves the right to ask those deemed inappropriate to leave.

There will also be a costume contest for adults and teens. That contest will be held on Friday night and awards will be given in the following categories: Best Costume, Scariest Costume and Best Group or Couple Costume.

Friday night will also have the Fall Favorites pie contest.

The Salt Creek Festival welcomes two musical acts to the line up of events Saturday night: Linda Smith and Daisy and Dirt will take the stage.

Also on Saturday, there will be Pumpkin Contests for the whole family and a Fall Baby Contest.
