Purdue@WestGate, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division Launch Showcases Featuring Technology Ready For Commercialization

Last updated on Monday, August 6, 2018

(ODON) - Purdue@WestGate and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) are planning to launch regular showcases featuring naval technology ready for commercialization.

These events, titled Technology Transfer Tuesdays @ WestGate, will take place every first Tuesday of the month starting 3 p.m. EDT Tuesday (Aug. 7) at WestGate Academy.

Brooke Pyne, the technology transfer program manager for NSWC Crane, says these showcases complement Purdue@WestGate's regular First Tuesday programming. This programming, such as News Before Brews seminars, regularly have more than 50 statewide leaders across industry, academia and government attend and feature diverse speakers and companies.

"We are aligning naval technology with their featured speaker's market and industry," Pyne says. "NSWC Crane has a growing portfolio with dozens of naval technologies ready for commercialization. Whether it is an entrepreneur commercializing federal technology or a researcher working with universities, we will maximize innovator's opportunities by building awareness of the leading-edge resources available at NSWC Crane."

Pyne says this event will advance collaboration between entrepreneurs, researchers, government and boost economic development in the region.

"During these showcases, we will feature naval technology directly to complementary industry leaders and innovators," says Pyne. "Attendees will be able to see prototypes, hear from inventors, and connect directly with our expert technology commercialization staff."

The NSWC Crane Technology Transfer team recently won a prestigious Department of Defense award for excellence in technology transfer. They were recognized for fostering engagement both internally and externally. In the past three years, they increased T2 partnerships by 111 percent, grew the patent portfolio by 60 percent, and went from 12 cooperative research and development agreements (CRADA) to 111.

Technology Transfer Tuesdays @ WestGate will start just prior to each News Before Brews seminar at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The public is welcome to attend. Attendees may RSVP to purduewestgate@prf.org
