Power Restored To Some Duke Customers

Last updated on Monday, August 6, 2018

(BEDFORD) - A power outage this afternoon left most of Bedford and Fayetteville - approximately 6,400 residents - without power.

The outage caused businesses and restaurants to temporary close, stop lights to not work and hospitals to fire up their generators to tend to patients.

Power has been restored to several areas. Duke says they hope to have serve back to everyone before 7 p.m.

There has been no official word on what caused the outage.

Bedford Fire firefighters were called to the area of Hillcrest Road and Beech Street after a generator kicked on throwing out soot and dust. There was no fire and the incident did not cause the power outage.

Others speculate a large transformer being transported northbound on State Road 37 may have hit a line and caused the issue, but that has not been confirmed.
