Persimmon Festival Queen Pageant Applications Available

(MITCHELL) - The Persimmon Festival Queen Pageant applications can be found at the Lawrence County Visitors Center/Mitchell Chamber of Commerce.

Katie Houchin, Chairman, said that she would love for the girls understand that the Persimmon Festival is large part of where they are from and that it is an honor to participate.

"I also want them to have fun and get to know each other better," said Houchin.

Contestants must be enrolled in a Lawrence County high school, be registered in grades 9-12 and have a clean disciplinary record for the current school year.

Only the first 20 entries will be entered into the competition. There is an entry fee of $50 that can be paid by sponsors or by the contestant.

A registration will be held August 18 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Mitchell City Hall where contestants can turn in their forms and entry fee. However, applications will be available until August 29 at the Lawrence County Visitors Center/Mitchell Chamber of Commerce.

Deadline for entry into the pageant is Wednesday, August 29 at 5 p.m.

The pageant will crown the 2018 Persimmon Festival Queen, Court and Miss Congeniality. There will be a monetary prize as well as other prizes from local businesses.

An informational meeting will be held at Jacob Finger United Methodist Church on August 18 at 6 p.m. to discuss requirements, duties of the Queen and her court and other concerns.

Preliminaries will be held Sunday, September 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell High School Auditorium. Admission to view the preliminary competition will be $2. Contestants will be judged on an interview, on stage question and school wear portion. Houchin said the school wear portion will show how the contestants present themselves.

Crowning will take place on Monday, September 24, at 6:00 p.m. on the Main Street Stage at the Persimmon Festival.
