UPDATED - One Dead, Others Seriously Injured In I-70 Accident

(MONROVIA) - One person is dead and others seriously injured after a van rear-ended a semi on I-70 west of Monrovia Friday night.

Indiana State Police were alerted to the accident around 8:30 p.m.

Police say 43-year-old Shane Oakley of Greenup, Illinois failed to slow for a slow moving or nearly stopped semi tractor trailer and struck it in the rear.

Oakley was killed in the crash.

Four passengers in his van - his wife, two daughters, and a man whose address is unknown, were taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Police say the three women suffered minor injuries, while the man is believed to be in critical condition with head and neck injuries.

The two adults in the semi were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
