(SCIPIO) - Indiana State Police and Jennings County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 7 at County Road 500 North around 4:30 p.m.
According to the initial investigation a 1993 Oldsmobile passenger car being driven by 19-year-old Dalton Rinker of North Vernon was traveling east on County Road 500 North at State Road 7. Rinker's vehicle entered State Road 7 into the path of a southbound 2018 Freightliner pulling a trailer, being driven by 39-year-old Leonel Guillen of Indianapolis.
Guillen's vehicle struck the driver's side of Rinker's vehicle. Rinker sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Guillen was not injured in the crash.
State Road 7 was closed for nearly two hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
It is not clear why Rinker pulled out into the path of Guillen's vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Scipio/Geneva Township Fire Department, Jennings County EMS, and the Jennings County Coroner's Office.
