(LAWRENCE COUNTY) - With nearly a decade of teaching and coaching experience, life-long Lawrence County resident Mr. Frank Decker will be the new Chief Professional Officer for the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County.

Decker most recently served as the Engineering and Technology teacher for the North Lawrence Career Center. Before his teaching experience, Frank retired as a journeyman machine repairman from GM Powertrain after 31 years of service.

He has coached recreational, high-school through varsity level, and various other boys and girls basketball teams.

He and his wife of 44 years raised their family here in Lawrence County. He also has a history with the club, attending the Thornton Memorial Boys Club as a child, and coaching for both it and the Limestone Girls Club.

Dr. Angie Lewis, Board President for the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County, said in a press release, "The board is very excited to see the club continue to grow in this next phase of its operations under Frank's proven leadership. In addition to stability in the senior role, Frank has a passion for youth development and learning and he has committed to establishing strong relationships between the club and its many stakeholders throughout the community,"

"One of his primary objectives will be to help better tell that story to the citizens of this community, so that others will understand and appreciate the public service being provided by the club. In addition to focusing on communication, Frank also brings many ideas with him related to the quality and content of the club's programs. He is interested in engaging kids early in a variety of programs so that they can develop interests that will serve them as they transition to adulthood. He is accustomed to working with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs and leveraging his impact on youth to develop the workforce skills needed by businesses and industry within the region," said Dr. Lewis.

The Board of Directors thanks Brigitte Gurden, former Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County CPO, for her efforts while leading the club and for the commitment of the club's "outstanding staff" that continue to serve club members.

Decker will officially assume responsibility Monday, August 6th.
