Last updated on Monday, August 20, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The Limestone Capital Half Marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Fitness Walk happening on October 6th is challenging local businesses and area schools to get as many of their comrades to get active on one of the three courses!

"The challenges are a great way of engaging friendly competition among community groups. They spark a healthy personal drive for the success of your respective organization. Plus, it creates great team spirit and camaraderie," said Bedford Parks Director and Limestone Capital Half Marathon Director, Barry Jeskewich.

Last year Parkview Intermediate School won the School Challenge and Dr. Jim Sowders, Practice of Optometry won the Corporate Challenge.

The challenges and Limestone Capital Half Marathon represents a pivotal point for the Bedford community that could shift the city's momentum to a healthier standpoint and to a smaller extent, an economic development standpoint.

Along with a feeling of accomplishment and pride, the winners of the Corporate Challenge and School Challenge will take home a traveling trophy, a trophy to retain and a trophy presentation during the closing ceremonies.

The Corporate Challenge winner will also receive 10 free entries into the 2019 race.

The challenge is based on a point system: 3 points for a half marathon participant, 2 points for a 5K participant or 1 mile walk participant and 1 point for a registered volunteer.

Family members do add to the total count.

After the race, the total number of points accumulated from the Limestone Capital Half Marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Fitness Walk from your business or school will be divided by the total number of staff and students at the school or total number of employees at the business. This generates a level playing field.

First grade and up may compete in the challenges. Kids under 10 must be accompanied by a family member.

When you're registering a team for the first time, there will be an option to start a team. The first person to do this will be considered the "Team captain".

The Team Captain should then advise others to join by selecting their Team Name or School during online registration.
