Gov. Holcomb And IAC Announce 2018 Governor's Arts Award Recipients

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced Tuesday the selection of five recipients of the 2018 Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards.

"It is my honor to join the Indiana Arts Commission in recognizing the contributions each of these recipients has made to the arts," Gov. Holcomb said. "Through their work, these awardees have contributed so much to quality-of-life in our state and beyond. Janet and I look forward to sharing this special occasion with our 2018 honorees."

The 2018 recipients of the Indiana Governor's Arts Awards are:

In addition to the award recipients, Addison Agen, Fort Wayne, Indiana will receive a special recognition as an emerging Indiana artist and will perform an original composition during the program. Ms. Agen was the 2017 runner-up in the NBC talent competition program The Voice.

"Each of our recipients has had a lasting impact in their community and on their discipline, and highlight the incredible talent and commitment to excellence inspired by, and nurtured in our state," said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. "Recognizing their accomplishments as well as an emerging talent like Addison will make this a truly special event."

Governor Holcomb, First Lady Jane Holcomb, and the IAC will honor the recipients during a special awards performance program at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) Friday, October 19, 2018 at Sweetwater Performance Theatre, Sweetwater Sound, Inc., 5501 US 30, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In 2016, Governor Mike Pence presented awards to American Pianist Association, Indianapolis, IN; Dance Kaleidoscope & choreographer David Hochoy, Indianapolis, IN; cartoonist and entrepreneur Jim Davis, Albany, IN; singer, songwriter & producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, (formerly) Indianapolis, IN; Robert & Ellen Haan, Lafayette, IN; and Wes Montgomery, (posthumous) Indianapolis, IN.

About the Governor's Arts Awards: Originally presented in 1973, the biennial awards program honors individuals, organizations, partnerships, businesses, and communities for significant contributions to the arts. The awards recognize excellence in artistic achievement, philanthropy, arts education and leadership in the arts, and build broader awareness of the important role the arts play in quality of life and economic vitality in Indiana.
