Free Workshop At Murray Forest Park With Answers On Invasive Plants

Last updated on Friday, August 10, 2018

(BEDFORD) - A free workshop on invasive plants will be held at Murray Forest Park on Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. until Noon.

As we're finding with natural areas around the state, our own Murray Forest Park has been invaded with many invasive plants. Many of these you will have seen on other forestlands.

Come out and learn how to identify some of these trees, shrubs, and plants that have become invasive. Learn why they are causing concerns for natural resources and how they can be controlled.

Nate Kachnavage, a professional forester will lead the workshop. He will discuss cost share opportunities for landowners with invasive issues, and talk about herbicide use and recommended equipment. The session will be informal and Kachnavage will answer whatever questions people have.

Participants are asked to bring water and wear sturdy shoes. The workshop will be held rain or shine. Meet at the back corner of the parking lot at Murray Forest Park, 420 W Street, in Bedford at 9 a.m. on August 18.

The workshop is sponsored by Keep Invasives in Check, the new Lawrence County Invasive Plant group. The group is working on promoting awareness, identification, control and prevention of invasive plants.
