Federal Laboratory Consortium Leadership Holds Forum To Connect Innovators With State-Of-The-Art Resources

Last updated on Thursday, August 2, 2018

(ODON) - Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) leadership will discuss opportunities within the national federal lab network, including access to technical experts, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities and federal technologies available for commercialization during a forum at WestGate Academy at 3:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday (Aug. 7).

The forum could provide valuable information to business leaders, entrepreneurs and scientists in a variety of industries prominent in Indiana, such as those in technology, agriculture, medical and manufacturing. Those involved in academia, startups and small businesses also could benefit.

"Innovators may not be fully aware of the opportunities and assets they can access from federal labs," says Brooke Pyne, the Midwest regional coordinator for the FLC. "There are more than 300 federal labs specializing in multiple technology disciplines, thousands of technologies and intellectual property available for commercialization, funding opportunities, educational programs, accessible federal facilities and cutting-edge equipment that can further R&D needs and impact the economy."

Technology disciplines within the national consortium range from environmental and defense to electronics, aerospace and IT-software.

"Access to these advanced federal labs can help accelerate the growth of startups and small businesses here in southern Indiana," Pyne said. "Why would companies go through the process of purchasing expensive equipment or facilities if it is already feasible for them to access existing federal resources? Business owners can integrate the latest technology and IP into their current strategies to advance their organization."

This seminar will feature John Dement, the national chair for the FLC, Pyne, and Jenna Dix, the Midwest deputy regional coordinator, speaking about this national network of labs, agencies, and research centers that foster commercialization best practice and strategies and opportunities for accelerating federal technologies from out of labs and into the marketplace. Following this presentation, attendees will be able to have one-on-ones with the national FLC representatives. This event is open to the public. Attendees may RSVP to PurdueWestGate@prf.org

About the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC)

Organized in 1974 and formally chartered by the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986, the FLC is a nationwide network of approximately 300 federal laboratories, centers, parent departments, and agencies that establishes strategies and opportunities for linking laboratory mission technologies and expertise with the marketplace. To accomplish its mission of assisting the movement of innovative federal research and development into the U.S. economy, the FLC provides various resources-from training to regional and national meetings-so its members can obtain the resources they need to achieve successful technology transfer.
